What is William Richard’s Sash Window Restoration method?
Our tried and tested WRSW restoration method can be applied to both residential and commercial properties in Stoke-on-Trent and can be broken down into three main sections:
- First, our experienced and highly-skilled craftsmen carefully dismantle the beading and cut the cord to remove the sashes. We understand that each restoration project is different and therefore thoroughly inspect the frame and sashes to determine the work required before replacing any rotten timber, loose putty or broken glass.
- Next, we service the original hardware, including the pulleys and catches, and replace it with new, innovative hardware if necessary. The wax cord is replaced with a pre-stretched nylon woven sash cord that is less prone to snapping. We then carefully weigh the sashes and ensure they are correctly balanced.
- Draughts and rattles are often the most common issue with sash windows, so once we’ve re-hung the sashes we then precisely mitre and install the insulation beading to ensure the windows are draughtproof. Before completing the restoration, we test the sashes to make sure they operate effectively, lock correctly and are perfectly balanced.
